American Express payment error

I just had an odd thing; I've taken American Express cards for payments before, not very often and not for a long time. Payment today would not go through on a new rental, came back with "incorrect CVV".

Card number was correct, expiration date was valid, CVV was the correct number on the card.

Has anything through SiteLink/CC processing changed and maybe I need to update something? Or do you think the card was messed up, she said she had just used it earlier.

    Just a reminder on AMEX, the CVV is not the 3 digits on the signature panel.  They use the 4-digit code that's near the full card number, usually on the front of the card.

    Gah! That's right! I knew that; I just don't take them often enough to have remembered.
