Is it possible to add a temporary charge until rent backlog is paid?

I have an elderly tenant who has gotten behind on their rent. To avoid them having to pay the entire amount at once we would like to add an agreed amount to their monthly autopay amount until the overdue rent is paid off.  
When I try to put them back on autopay with a new card it wants to charge the full amount.
Is there a way to add this payment and put the tenant back on autopay without it charging the entire rent due amount. Only monthly rent + agreed make up payment?

You would have to remove/delete/credit the past due part and add it back in the agreed monthly payment amounts with the due date the same as rent each month.  

Honestly, I would just turn off autopay and set a monthly reminder for myself to run the payment for rent and agreed back payment amount until it's all caught up.
