What card reader device do you use at your storage offices?

Our offices are looking to switch to something new. We are looking for a card reader that integrates well with SiteLink that has a swipe, chip and tap feature as well as an apple/android pay function. What is everyone using currently?

Hi @RainbowAly - The card reader must be a non-encrypted, keyboard emulated swiper that connects to your computer through a USB port. You do have the option to have us purchase one for you. For more information, you can contact our team at 919-865-0789 > Option 2.

We've been waiting on chip readers for over 10ish years now...all we have access to are swiper. Welcome to the stone age of card processing

This is new information to me. I was unaware that chip function was not yet available!

Can't do chip, tap, Apple, Android, Samsung, etc.  Only swipe with a cheap swiper.  I think I got mine on Amazon for less than $10!!!

Considering how Draconian Storable is about PCI DSS and security etc. etc. .... I'm AMAZED they do not have a compatible chip reader for their own product!

Ive had to run two security penetration tests already this year to comply with Storables nagging PCI DSS
requirements and answer a million questions.....yet they still use 1990s card swipers?

Just thinking out loud, so to speak:

Most of my facilities card use is for automatic payments. Since chips create a new single use code for every transaction, they are not very useful in that regard. Only swiping the magnetic strip or manual entry uses the "hard" number.

Most of our non-automatic payments are made over the phone or internet and also necessarily use the "hard" number.

Actual point of sale purchases are a tiny fraction of our own usage, and EMV chip readers would be great for that, especially reducing (already rare) chargebacks and fraud complaints. If we had a kiosk, a chip / RF reader would be awesome. Some customers do feel more secure or find it more convenient to use the chip or tap and go. It would help us maintain a "modern and secure" image.

I imagine part of the difficulty Sitelinks team would have is the required encryption and getting it to interface with, for example, the payment screen. Someone plugs in their chip card, types in their PIN. The payment is done in the background by the card processor, and then the processor tells the payment screen "yeah, that transaction worked. Heres the auth number. Trust me, but I cant tell you what the card number is."

I am not sure how a refund would work. I imagine the card holder would have to be present and plug in or tap their card again to authorize the refund, since no valid card number would be available.

The added value for my facility would be small, but might be worth it.

I use the Clover Flex currently. It offers reliable performance and additional features like inventory management and customer engagement tools, making it an excellent choice for our needs.

Curious how you get that to work with Sitelink since Sitelink doesn't support the chip reader?

By primarily using it for swipe and contactless payments. However, for chip payments, we currently handle them separately but hope for future updates to improve this integration.
